While on a recent research trip to Delaware, I stumbled across an interesting resource I’d not seen mentioned elsewhere, and thought I would feature it here in the event a future researcher is searching for a name that this list contains. I’d like to post a complete citation to this document, but unfortunately, all of the information needed was written on the little call slip that I lost somewhere between DE and OH. I’ve emailed the library for information to properly cite this and will update this post when I get it, but in the meantime: The document is a list of freeholders in New Castle County, DE for the year 1774. I found this at the Delaware Historical Society’s Research Library. It is part of a George Read manuscript collection, although I will have to wait for the information as to exactly which folder it is from. I will eventually transcribe the whole list, but for now I am posting only Appoquinimink Hundred (click to see a pdf of these entries). Keep in mind: These are only freeholders, not a complete listing of the Hundred. Happy Hunting!
