EEK. According to Dick Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter, the Pennsylvania State Library is facing budget cuts – from $4.8 million to $2.3 million. The Pa Library has one of the largest newspaper collections in the country, many of which are available on microfilm via inter-library loan. Sadly, there are also talks that these budget cuts could reduce staffing from 56 to only 5 people. Yes. 51 of 56 jobs cut. It’s unfortunate, as that is a place that I would really have liked to have gone, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this all pans out. Currently, they are open 48.5 hours a week. No mention was made as to how much time the library would be open to the public under the new budget proposal.
